City of Adelaide has identified Melbourne Street as one of our priority main streets for revitalisation and to support this is developing comprehensive plans including the preparation of the Melbourne Street Master Plan.

Community engagement already undertaken by City of Adelaide has identified a desire for:

• Increased pedestrian access
• Increased pedestrian safety
• Reduced speed limits.

City of Adelaide proposes to install a raised wombat crossing at the eastern end of Melbourne Street adjacent to the Grand Apartments. Installing a raised wombat crossing at this location aligns with the Melbourne Street Master Plan, reflects community engagement feedback and a history of requests for a crossing to be installed at this location. There may also be an opportunity to install a wombat crossing at a second location on Melbourne Street in the future at the west end of Melbourne Street in front of the Ronald McDonald House.
