As the capital city of South Australia, Adelaide has a vital role to play in shaping the future of our state, and the City of Adelaide Strategic Plan 2016-2020 outlines a number of ways Adelaide will transform into a smart, green, liveable and creative city.

A partnership has been formed between the South Australian State Government and the Adelaide City Council for the strategic priority of an East-West and North-South bikeways to help achieve the planning and delivery of high-quality walking and cycling routes throughout the city and Park Lands.

Part of this partnership is to ensure a future for South Australia that is sustainable, responds to environmental change and works toward becoming the world’s first carbon neutral city.

The bikeways will create an easy movement of people into, out of and around the city and needs to be well-planned and achieve a balance between the full suite of transport options including cars, public transport, cycling and walking, all of which are vital for a prosperous city.

Initial engagement on the North-South Bikeway concluded in February 2017. A report was presented to Council regarding the outcomes of the process on 07 March 2017.
