Project Update
We thank all those who contributed to the consultation process on the Wakefield Street concept design. Your feedback was valuable and will be used to assist in future funding requests associated with design options for this street and to guide future engagement.
In addition, the Integrated Transport Strategy (ITS) will be considered by Council in the coming months and the outcomes of this work will better inform a cycling network strategy approach which can then be reflected appropriately in the designs.
A comprehensive review has been undertaken along the length of the street, with a view to seek opportunities to renew the assets as and when required including the potential locations for the suitability of planting street trees as part of the Greener Streets program.
Community members will be notified and encouraged to participate in a consultation process subject to the future consideration of these projects by Council.
We gathered information and feedback from the community on our plans to undertake renewal work in Wakefield Street between Victoria Square and Hutt Street.
The planned renewal includes new road surface, new kerbs and widening the central median to allow for planting of trees and understorey plants. As part of this, we are proposing to close the median at six locations to improve safety for pedestrians, cyclists and vehicles.
This project will also include undergrounding of powerlines which will enable the removal of stobie poles between Victoria Square and Pulteney Street. We will be replacing the existing stobie poles with new light poles improving lighting along the road and footpaths.
