Project Information

This project is being undertaken to increase greening across the city in streets that have little to no vegetation. Trees will assist in providing shade in summer and improving the overall amenity in the street.

Consultation Information

What we asked

As part of Council’s commitment to making Adelaide a greener and more sustainable capital city, we asked the community if they supported the proposal to increase greening across the city in streets that have little to no vegetation. The community was asked to provide feedback on the below proposed planting:

  • Five (5) new trees in Ada Street
  • Three (3) new Irrigated Grass in Brougham Place
  • Four (4) new Planter Box trees in Cairns Street
  • Two (2) new trees in Charlotte Place
  • Five (5) new Planter Box trees in Gray Street
  • Five (5) new trees and One (1) Water Sensitive Urban Design Greening area in Hamilton Place
  • Two (2) new Planter Box trees in Tapley Street
  • One (1) new tree in Walter Street
  • Two (2) new trees and One (1) Planter Box tree in Wyatt Street (north)
  • Six (6) new trees and One (1) Water Sensitive Urban Design Garden Bed in Wyatt Street (south)

As a result of the new tree planting, 1 timed car parking space would be affected (Carins Street) and 1 paid parking space will be removed (Wyatt Street). The intent is to utilise the space which are considered no stopping zones. All loading zones and motorcycle parking was to remain unchanged.

The final location of the trees was to be subject to the location of existing underground services.

Additional Information

Ada Street

City of Adelaide propose to install an additional tree along this street. The Design Team have checked the existing services locations and traffic impacts.

Brougham Place

This project is being funded by a Local Road and Community Infrastructure Grant. We will deliver verges as proposed, and new flagstone pavers matching already installed pavers west of this section.

Charlotte Place

Following a site meeting with the residents along this street, we will incorporate understory planting to existing trees installed along this street. Residents are also working with the City of Adelaide to submit a Nature Strip Application to seek more greening along the street.

Tapley Street

We have taken on board the feedback received and reduced the amount of planter boxes from 4 to 2. Businesses along this street have been supportive of this change.
