Improving road safety at the intersection of Kermode Street and Sir Edwin Smith Avenue.
We want your feedback on the proposed temporary relocation bus stop 2 and temporary removal of three on street parking spaces on the Western side of Sir Edwin Smith Avenue.
During the COVID-19 pandemic temporary modular treatment unit pods were installed on the roadway on Sir Edwin Smith Avenue outside of the Women's and Children’s Hospital to provide additional patient facilities and support. Since then, there has been a significant increase in presentations to the Paediatric Emergency Department necessitating continued use of the pods to manage patient demand effectively. Last year, Council supported a request from the Women's and Children’s Hospital to extend the use of these pods until December 2026.
To improve the safety of traffic movement at the intersection of Kermode Street and Sir Edwin Smith Avenue, South Australian Public Transport Authority identified that bus stop 2 needs to be temporarily relocated further south (towards The Memorial Hospital) while the pods remain in place, to allow enough distance for buses to merge into the traffic from the bus stop before reaching the intersection.
To facilitate the relocation of the bus stop Council proposes to implement a temporary parking control for the removal of three on street parking spaces which will be used to temporarily relocate bus stop 2. This temporary parking control alteration would take effect from 14 April 2025 until 31 December 2026.
