The South Australian Road Runners Club has been holding the Adelaide Marathon Festival within the City of Adelaide since 1979. The first Adelaide Marathon was organised by the Distance Runners Club of SA (DRC) over a course which began at Princes Park in Gawler, about 40km north of Adelaide and finished outside Adelaide Oval near the Victor Richardson Gates. Held each year since, the Brooks Adelaide Marathon Festival attracts runners from all over Australia to take on one of four distances. Entrants can choose from the full 42.2 km marathon, the 21.1 km half marathon, or the 10 km and 5 km fun run/walk events.
Under the Local Government Act 1999, the City of Adelaide is required to consult the public before it can grant a permit for an event that requests to use a public road for business purposes, and which will require whole or partial road closure(s) that may impede the passage of traffic to a material degree.
How will residents, businesses and stakeholders be notified of this event?
All residents and businesses in the surrounding areas of these events will be notified via a letter box drop organised by the event organiser in the lead up to the event. An event hotline telephone number will be included in the letter, should a member of the public wish to lodge any feedback or concerns during the event.
Will residents and businesses be able to access properties during the events road closures?
Whilst the roads mentioned above will be closed to vehicular traffic, pedestrian access will be maintained with the footpaths kept clear to provide clear access.
Will the closures impact parking?
To facilitate the road closures, all the on-street parking spaces on the closed section of the roads would be changed to ‘No Stopping (Tow Away)’ for the duration of the road closures.
Where can I find out more information on the events?
Further information can be found here.
